What is Space and Time?

Space and Time is the data blockchain securing onchain finance.

Most financial activity still originates offchain. Banks, exchanges, payment networks, and enterprises operate on centralized databases and internal ledgers. At the same time, value is increasingly settling onchain through stablecoins, tokenized assets, and programmable contracts. The convergence of these two systems is where Space and Time operates: as verifiable infrastructure that connects offchain data to onchain execution.

Space and Time is a decentralized database designed not just to store and serve data, but to prove its correctness. With Space and Time, smart contracts can query historical blockchain data or offchain datasets and receive ZK-proven results that can be verified onchain. This makes it possible to build financial applications that depend on historical analysis, cross-chain data, or offchain inputs without introducing trusted intermediaries.

The network continuously indexes major blockchains, including Ethereum and Base, into queryable tables. Developers can also load their own offchain data. When a smart contract requests a query, Space and Time executes it, generates a zero-knowledge proof that the computation was correct, and returns verified results onchain.

How to Participate

There are two primary ways to participate in the Space and Time network during Chainlink Rewards Season 1: staking and building.

Stake SXT

Staking SXT secures the network. Validators and delegators contribute to the cryptographic processes that make verifiable data possible: witnessing ingested data, updating commitments, threshold-signing proofs, and maintaining network integrity.

Rewards for validators and delegators is tied to verified workload volume processed by the network. As query volume grows and more institutions adopt Space and Time for production workloads, compensation for network participants grows proportionally.

Build with Space and Time

Developers can integrate Space and Time into smart contracts to access historical blockchain data, offchain datasets, or cross-chain activity with ZK-proven results.

The SXT Token

Space and Time mainnet launched in May 2025 with live workloads and production usage already flowing through the network. SXT is the native token that enables coordination, security, and value exchange across the Space and Time network.

All network activity, which includes indexing blockchain data, inserting client datasets, executing queries, and generating proofs, consumes resources that are metered and settled in SXT. As usage grows, value accrues to the decentralized network through transparent, verifiable economic activity.

Participants stake SXT to secure the network and earn rewards based on real workload volume. Validators maintain cryptographic commitments to data tables. Provers execute queries and generate ZK proofs. Indexers continuously ingest blockchain data. Each of these roles is compensated in proportion to the work performed and verified onchain.

Use Cases for Space and Time

Space and Time supports any use case that requires verifiable data, including tokenized assets, DeFi, and rewards. Each category depends on verifiable computation over data that smart contracts cannot natively access.

Tokenization

As institutional adoption expands, tokenized assets are increasingly sophisticated. What began as simple representations of stocks or treasuries now extends to private credit portfolios, money market funds, structured notes, and stablecoins with dynamic backing.

Many of these assets derive value from ongoing computation over evolving datasets: cash flow aggregations, portfolio rebalancing, compliance filters, and NAV calculations. Space and Time enables smart contracts to verify this data and enforce rules based on proven offchain inputs.

Institutions moving assets onchain need infrastructure that can handle complexity while maintaining verifiability. Space and Time provides that foundation, connecting existing financial databases to smart contracts through ZK-proven queries.

DeFi & Lending

DeFi protocols operate on current onchain state with no visibility into how that state was reached. A lending protocol can see a wallet's current balance but not its repayment history. A derivatives contract can reference today's price but not historical volatility.

Space and Time changes this by making historical onchain data queryable and verifiable.

Historical user activity: Protocols can query a user's full activity across wallets, chains, and markets (past borrowing, repayment behavior, liquidations, and usage patterns) and receive ZK-proven results.

Cross-protocol credit context: User behavior is spread across many chains and applications. Space and Time aggregates historical data from multiple sources into a single, verifiable view, providing a more complete picture of risk than any protocol can offer on its own.

Dynamic lending terms: With access to proven historical data, protocols can move beyond one-size-fits-all parameters. Collateral requirements, interest rates, and borrowing limits can adjust based on verified user behavior over time, while keeping all decisions transparent and enforceable onchain.

Verifiable risk models: Risk models often rely on assumptions because the underlying data cannot be independently verified. Space and Time enables protocols to run complex historical queries and prove the results onchain, allowing contracts to enforce risk parameters using data they can trust.

This unlocks sophisticated financial products that were previously impractical: undercollateralized lending based on credit history, derivatives priced on realized volatility, and portfolio risk management that adapts to market conditions.

Rewards

Protocols often need to distribute tokens based on real user behavior: sustained participation, cross-application usage, or offchain activity. Space and Time enables verifiable, automated reward systems without relying on snapshots or manual processes.

Verifiable rewards matter because they align incentives without introducing trust assumptions. Participants can audit the criteria. Smart contracts can enforce distribution logic. The entire process operates transparently onchain.

Activity-based distributions: Protocols can define complex eligibility criteria using historical onchain and offchain data, verify the results with ZK proofs, and execute distributions transparently.

Stablecoin ecosystem programs: In jurisdictions where stablecoin issuers are restricted from embedding yield directly into the asset, Space and Time enables ecosystem-level distribution programs that operate independently of the stablecoin contract, using verifiable data and decentralized execution to support usage-based rewards while maintaining regulatory separation.

Space and Time and Chainlink

Space and Time was one of the first projects to join Chainlink Build in 2022. Since then, the Chainlink community has supported the development and growth of Space and Time through technical collaboration, ecosystem alignment, and shared infrastructure.

Integration with Chainlink

Space and Time is currently integrating with the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), providing developers a familiar and straightforward way to send Space and Time data to their smart contracts. This integration enables developers already building with Chainlink to easily incorporate ZK-proven historical data and offchain datasets into their applications without requiring new tooling or workflows.

By leveraging Chainlink's established infrastructure, Space and Time data becomes accessible alongside other Chainlink services (Data Feeds, CCIP, Automation, and Functions) creating a unified developer experience for building data-driven smart contracts.
